Planning for a presentation called:Making the Web Work:The design and use of web based tools for data gathering, education and evaluation.

Gearing up for a presentation next Friday, March 23 here on campus. In order to keep track of things I’m adding this post with the session description and a link to the concept map I’m developing to organize information.

The Description:

What are the keys to developing and using online tools in an educational environment? This workshop will explore a range of web based tools available for program delivery, data gathering and evaluation. We will discuss the pro’s and con’s of various approaches to delivering content online, as well as the support needed to effectively utilize web based tools. How does the design of a tool affect it’s utility? How do you identify key elements that will engage your students? What are the risks and costs of using current web based technologies?

Workshop participants will have the opportunity to learn from developers and practitioners working in the filed to design and deploy some of these web based tools. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of the potential, and costs, of making the web work in their classroom.
